15. Celebration Night

Padma hummed as she opened the door to Jaden's office. She paused because all three of the women were closing their computers down, not paying attention to anyone coming in. While Jaden never minded being startled, Nor was very bad with surprises and Arya had almost fallen off her chair yesterday when Padma came up and joined them for lunch.

Which, honestly, might have had more to do with the way Mrs. Prouss had frowned at Padma than anything else but there was no reason for making them uncomfortable in their own office. Thankfully, Mrs. Prouss wasn't in her corner office with its wide windows that surveyed everything on the floor so Padma didn't have to worry about saying or doing something that would trigger her bigotry.

"So, you going out with us tonight?" Nor murmured as Jaden closed down her computer and grabbed her purse, bouncing on her toes and making those beautiful breasts jiggle. "We were thinking you're due a night out."

"Nope," Jaden said, grinning at both Nor and Arya's surprised look. "Padma's been threatening to drag me down to Seattle to see the art museum. She decided that tonight's the night. We finished unpacking all the boxes and got all her art put up last night so yeah, it's time for a celebration. I am so glad to be done with boxes, seriously. I'm still not sure how Padma fit all that stuff into such a small apartment."

"Excellent storage utilization," Padma said from the doorway, knocking twice not that it was likely to do any good.

She laughed at the way all three of them jumped, wrinkling her nose when Jaden huffed at her. Padma nodded an apology to Arya who shook her head. Nor just rolled her eyes, hands on her hips as she stared at Padma.

"You enjoy scaring the daylights out of me," Nor complained.

"Nonsense," Padma said with as serious of an expression as she could manage with Jaden cackling back in her cubical at the rear of the room. "You just weren't paying attention. We should get going, Jaden. Traffic is going to be horrible."

"That's why we have my car today," Jaden said with a wave to Nor and Arya. "AC is nothing to sneeze at."

She got a chorus of groans that Padma entirely agreed with. The office AC was working fairly well in Jaden's office. Limping a little compared to the low nineties outside but still functioning. Padma's office had been a furnace when she'd come in, the AC failing to cope at all. Her boss had spent an hour yelling at people on the phone before someone came and fixed it. Now her office felt like a freezer.

Padma would take that over an oven. Really, there was a reason she lived in the Pacific Northwest. The remarkably stable weather with few swings of temperature was a huge part of it. If Padma never saw another snowflake in her lifetime, it would be far too soon. Same for hundred degree days and eighty degree nights.
